What is real and what is not about the images and claims related to rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs’ arrest

Publicado
Claves
  • After the arrest of Sean 'Diddy' Combs, fake images have circulated, such as an image of Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian allegedly at one of his parties, or a photograph that supposedly shows LeBron James wearing a French maid suit
  • There are also fake images of Kamala Harris along him: some photos have been manipulated, and there’s a video that falsely claims to feature the rapper when in fact it is someone else
  • On the other hand, there are  contents circulating that are true: before Donald Trump arrived at the White House, both Trump and Diddy were photographed together several times, and they praised each other in public. The rapper was one of Elon Musk's investors in the 2022 Twitter (now X) acquisition

On September 16, Sean 'Diddy' Combs was arrested in New York on charges of extortion, sex trafficking and racketeering. He was accused of holding parties with sex workers, called 'freak offs', organized by 'Diddy' himself, from which the rapper would keep videos of people having sex. After that, content has been circulating linking several celebrities or politicians with the parties, some of which are false and have already been debunked by Maldita.es. Nevertheless, some other contents are real.

No, this photo of Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian was not taken at a Sean Diddy party: it is a SKIMS ad campaign

A photo of the model and actress Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian together with claims that link it to one of Sean Diddy’s parties has been circulating. It is false that it was taken at one of his parties. The image corresponds to a 2021 advertising campaign of the lingerie brand SKIMS.

Fake photos and videos of Kamala Harris allegedly with rapper Sean Diddy have been circulating

Photos and videos where Kamala Harris, presidential candidate and current Vice President of the United States, allegedly appears with Sean Diddy have been posted and shared on social media. But they are false. In some cases, they use manipulated images where the rapper's face has been overlapped, in others, there’s a video where Kamala Harris is seen with TV presenter Montel Williams. In this case, contents falsely claim that Williams is actually Sean Diddy.

Kamala Harris did thank Diddy for hosting an event in 2020 where it was discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic affected black communities in the U.S.

A tweet posted by Kamala Harris in 2020 has also been circulating again. The Vice President thanked the singer for hosting an online event called 'Black America and Coronavirus', which addressed how the country's African-American community had been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Harris gave a speech at the event [0:02].

Before Trump's arrival at the White House, in 2017, Diddy was photographed with him several times and they openly praised each other

Donald Trump and Sean Diddy were photographed together several times in the past. After the rapper's arrest, the photos have started to circulate again. Some of the first ones to appear are from Getty’s catalogue, from 1997 and 1998. They were taken in New York.

Later pictures show them along Melania Trump. These are from 2004, 2005 and 2008.

They both praised each other in public, and these statements have now gone viral. In 2012, on an episode of 'The Apprentice', Trump said Diddy was a “good guy” and would “stand up” for his “friend” [1:09:25]. Trump also called Sean 'Diddy' Combs “legendary” [0:53] in the invitation to the rapper's 29th birthday, in 1998.

In 2015, Diddy said that Trump was a “friend” of his and that he worked “very hard”. Once Trump made it to the White House, the rapper became more critical with him. In 2017, Diddy said that “to be honest, we don't really give a s*** about Trump, because [black people are] in the same f***ing situation.” In 2020, he said that “white men like Trump” should be “banished,” as “[his] way of thinking” was “really dangerous.” In 2018, after being asked if he would ever speak to him again, Diddy said America was in “a crazy time.”

An alleged quote from LeBron James predicting Diddy's arrest and photos of him wearing a French maid outfit at a rapper’s party have been circulating: they’re both fake

Content claiming that LeBron James predicted the arrest of rapper Diddy while listening to the song ''Mo Money Mo Problem'' in his car has been circulating. There is no evidence of him saying such words, and the X profile that shared the content is a “parody account”. The content also claims that the source would be Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, but there is no trace of him having said that phrase. Thus, it is false.

An alleged photo of LeBron James wearing a French maid outfit at a Sean Diddy's party has also been circulating, but it is another hoax. The image has inconsistencies in his tattoos that show that it is not real.

Usher said his X account had been “hacked” after all his posts momentarily disappeared

On September 22, all posts on Usher's X profile disappeared, as reported by the media. Usher said in a post that his account was “hacked”. His profile is now active, and all of his posts are available.

In 2016, Usher talked about his teenage days with Sean Diddy, describing that period as “wild.” Usher used to live in New York with Diddy, who was his mentor, and there, while being like “his little brother”, he saw the rapper's “lifestyle” [3:22]. “I don't know if I could afford to understand what I was seeing. It was pretty wild. There were some pretty curious things going on and I didn't necessarily understand them” [0:32].

It is true that Sean Diddy was one of the investors in Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter

Headlines claiming that Sean Diddy was one of Elon Musk's investors when he bought Twitter, now X, in 2022 have also been circulating. A U.S. court ordered X in August 2024 to publish a list of all of its investors. The document includes 'Sean Combs Capital, LLC', one of the rapper's companies.
