Maldita.es Foundation and the University of Granada will host the conference “Disinformation in the EU 2024-2029: Challenges for a New Term” on September 27th at the Press Club in Brussels. This event will bring together prominent experts and legislators to explore the future landscape in the fight against disinformation.
The event will begin with an interview with Věra Jourová, outgoing Vice President of the European Commission responsible for Transparency and Values, conducted by Clara Jiménez Cruz, President of Maldita.es Foundation.
Speakers will include representatives from the European External Action Service, the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services. We will also be joined by members of influential organizations such as the Atlantic Council's DFRLab, EDMO, GLOBSEC, EU DisinfoLab, and the Mozilla Foundation.
The series of panels will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the European Union in the fight against disinformation over the next five years; the open fronts of this new mandate, the legislative tools established in recent years that need to be implemented, and the priorities and collaboration strategies to protect the integrity of information.
During the event, the University of Granada and Maldita.es will present their findings on the dynamics of disinformation on Telegram in Spain. They will also unveil an innovative analysis tool using artificial intelligence and natural language processing of public messages in Telegram channels in Spain, developed with the support of the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF). In addition, a position paper addressing the dynamics of disinformation on the messaging platform will be presented, highlighting key concerns and recommendations aimed at governments, the platform, and civil society organizations.
