Fundación Maldita.es together with ten other fact-checking organisations, has published a new report compiling the results of the monitoring conducted between 1 July and 30 September 2026 as part of the ATAFIMI project.

The project aims to identify and analyse incidents of Russian-origin Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) across different countries and languages.

The monitoring covers the following countries participating in the project: Spain, Ukraine, Lithuania, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.

Key findings include:

  • The spread of narratives that exploit citizens’ experiences of the war in Ukraine, both Ukrainians and Europeans, to condemn European governments’ decisions, particularly those relating to the conflict, and shift the focus away from Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

  • The resurgence of the campaign under the slogan “Russia Is Not My Enemy”, promoted on X by users from dozens of countries as well as by Russian embassy accounts.

  • Events such as the migration crisis in Ceuta, election dates in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Saxony, Germany, as well as the death of war criminal Ratko Mladić, were exploited to promote various disinformation narratives.

  • Reframing context, use of unverified sources, strong emotional framing and attacks on public institutions were the most common techniques identified in the content analysed.
