Clashed with riot police outside the Israeli consulate. 22 officers injured. 15 arrests. And Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stood in front of his own party and said he felt “admiration for the Spanish people mobilising for just causes.” That same week, pro-Palestinian protesters had already forced the cancellation of the final stage of La Vuelta, one of the world’s biggest cycling races. 22 police officers injured there too. Sánchez’s response? He called for Israel to be banned from all international sporting events. Not a word about the burnt bins. Not a word about the smashed shopfronts. Not a word about his own police officers lying injured in the street. The Danish Prime Minister condemned him for it. The UCl condemned him. His own left-wing allies called him a hypocrite for praising the crowds while sending police to beat them back.
