Este dispositivo, afirman los investigadores, cuenta también con una inteligencia artificial que se encarga de vigilar el crecimiento del feto y asegurarse de que no le falta nada durante su desarrollo. Llevamos décadas dándole vueltas a la idea de los úteros artificiales desde que el médico neoyorquino Emanuel M. Greenberg patentara el primer diseño en los años cincuenta. Su útero artificial consta de un tanque lleno de líquido amniótico que alberga al feto, una máquina que se conecta al cordón umbilical del embrión, bombas de sangre, un riñón artificial y un calentador de agua.
